The group just finished reading “Chasing the Dragon” by Jackie Pullinger. This book tells the true story of the author’s missionary work in Hong Kong and its infamous Walled City as a response to God’s calling.
Jackie, who was truly led by the Holy Spirit to minister to triad gangsters, drug addicts and prostitutes, made a real difference in the transformation of many people’s lives in the slums of the Walled City.
Jackie’s trust in God and love for Jesus was evident in the way she loved people. She had great compassion for the people of the Walled City and never gave up on them. Her complete faith in God's provision and protection was very outstanding. Although a very inspiring and challenging story, I felt the book got repetitive after a while. Nevertheless, I was amazed by how the name of “Jesus” and the power of the Holy Spirit simply delivered addicts from drug addiction.
Very highly recommended!
Love and blessings,
Ope

Hi lovely ladies
Thank you all for such a good evening a couple of weeks ago (it seems like ages ago!). I really enjoyed the challenge to read Chasing The Dragon and continue to be challenged by it. Specifically about reaching certain people in society.
My passion is to reach out to adults with special needs, particularly the younger age range. I was particularly challenged by two things in the book:
1. Jackie set up a social group but she wasn't phased by how many turned up as long as they knew she was always there for them. She carried on going when only one person turned up and didn't give up when discouraged.
2. Jackie made the point that she wanted people alongside her who were more interested in reaching the people than they were in the activities they were trying to reach them through.
At present I am continuing to ask God what He wants me to do although I am still partly bound by the "what if it doesn't work?"!!
Anyway, I will continue to seek.
Much love
Jacqui (Morgan)
