Left Behind?

Hello!

Happy New Year to you all.

We have just finished reading “Left Behind” by Tim LaHaye and Jerry B. Jenkins.
This is a novel of the earth’s last days. The story is built around the “end times” in a fictional context around the theme of the “Rapture”.

I need to stress that Left Behind is a “Fiction Story”. However, the subject of this book really makes you stop and ask yourself where you are in your walk with God.

A must read for all Christians or for anyone who has any questions concerning Christianity.

Love and blessings,

Ope

My comments on "Left Behind":

I found LB an easy book to read. It was certainly a page turner for me and I actually enjoyed the suspense and the touch of romance although I felt as if I was reading an “action fiction” with an evangelical twist.

I thought the biblical references were rather shallow and did not give an accurate and serious analysis of the biblical prophecies about the coming of Christ.

I had to remind myself that the content of LB is the authors’ account of how they think the rapture will take place. No one knows how or when this will happen.

Regardless, I couldn’t help but seriously ponder on my walk with God and wonder, if I am still here when the rapture happens, will I be taken or left behind?

I first read Left Behind many years ago and found it a very good read and struggled to put the book down. I did however, start reading it on a train and found myself looking around to check everyone was still there!!!

It was good to read it again as I had forgotten many of the finer details within the story.

However, as Ope says, it is important to remember that this is just a story and no one knows how or when Christ will return.

I was not a fan of this book, but being a 'page turner' I did stick with it. I think it is the sort of thing that I would have enjoyed as a teenager as it is all about plot but not big on character or description.

I think, even in our day, when we have been thrilled and scared by very sophisicated TV programs like Dr Who and other Sci Fi fantasies, that the notion that a portion of the population could just vanish is quite startling and shocking. This book helped me to think through the ensuing chaos, mourning, anger and reflection that could result, and that many would turn to Christ or self destruct if it were to happen as he describes it.

We certainly get to read a wide range of books in this group!
